NEW YORK MOVIE REVIEW
NEW YORK MOVIE REVIEW :
After the completion of long fight between the bollywood producers and multiplex owner . the first big movie was disappointed the anxiety audiences . well coming in to the film. New York opens around 7 years after the 9/11 attacks with Omar (Neil Mukesh) being wrongly held captive by the FBI. Investigating officer Roshan (Irrfan Khan) offers to go easy on Omar if he agrees to spy on old-time friend Sameer (John Abraham) who the FBI suspects to be a terrorist. With a maneuvered reunion, Omar gets entry into Sameer’s house and tries hard to unveil his activist identity but fails every time, much to his relief.
Sameer himself narrates his distressing past to Omar of how he was illegally detained and brutally tortured by the FBI for 9 months, immediately after 9/11 and victimized for being a Muslim suspect in New York.
This film opens on an intriguing note with Omar’s attempts to infiltrate into Sameer’s life. The ensuing chemistry between the characters keeps you riveted till the movie takes an interesting (though palpable) twist at the interval point. The terrorism theme comes into picture predominantly in the second half. The physical and mental abuse on innocent Muslims, imprisoned merely on suspicion and their consequent repercussions are effectively portrayed.

The aditya chopra at again failed to show intention of the movie. But beyond that Aditya Chopra’s story doesn’t work towards the rehabilitation of the disturbed mind that has taken to the wrong path. In a way, the film turns the villain into more of an antihero imparting him no character change. Above that the commonplace climax where the FBI headquarters is held as the terrorist target doesn’t go beyond Fanaa frontiers. The terrorist is terminated but the topic of terrorism it tackles keeps long lingering. It will feels bore for the audience .All the three lead protagonists of New York are Muslims affected by the 9/11 episode in varied ways and to different degrees. Sameer turns a scapegoat of the situation; Omar’s identity gets him in trouble, while Roshan’s character (a Muslim investigating on terrorism) offers that ray of hope prevailing amidst discriminating humankind. Unfortunately the scope it had to represent the contrast of the characters isn’t used as distinctly and effectively like in the Pakistani film Khuda Kay Liye with similar concepts .
While issue of global terrorism somewhere goes for a toss with the film turning into a human emotion drama. As the victim is released from prison and his atrocities are still fresh in your mind, the intensity of his trauma is diluted with a love song stuffed in. The couple further goes on to make love and start a family. More mush comes into picture as Omar confesses his campus feelings to the married Maya (Katrina Kaif) amidst the pre-climax mayhem. Thankfully the traditional Yash Raj triangle is averted. The side-track of a frustrated Muslim driver (Nawazuddin) committing suicide doesn’t contribute to the plot and could have been avoided. But the director fails to show the reality characters in the film.
Artist performances :
Only Irrfan khan and john Abraham performed very well in their characters . John does well in his frail characterization which could have been much more convincing, intense and effective. Neil looks rehearsed in some scenes but doesn’t disappoint. Irrfan Khan never misses any punch in his lines and is as expressive as ever. Katrina Kaif doesn’t get the meatier portion and contributes to the sloppy effect. She is very poor in this film.
Well the bottom line of the film was it is below Average . The emotions of characters was not shown good in the movie. The New York movie fails to break new grounds on that note. It is not a convincing one .

Zayed Khan Biography
Born in 1980, this Khan aspired to act in Hindi films from an age of 8! He studied at Welham Boys' School, Dehradun and the Kodaikanal International School, Kodaikanal. Later he completed his education in the UK.
His parents are Bollywood actor Sanjay Khan and Zarine Khan. Zayed is both a Pathan and a Muslim. He has three sisters, Suzanne Khan: married to Hrithik Roshan, Simon Khan and Farah Khan.
Being surrounded by films and actors from when he was a toddler, getting into films was not as difficult for Zayed as it is for people with no connections in Bollywood. He debuted in “Chura Liya Hai Tumne” in 2003 with childhood friend Esha Deol. The film flopped at the box office.
Zayed’s actual claim to fame came with Choreographer Farah Khan’s directional debut “Main Hoon Na” in 2004, which also starred Shah rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen and Amrita Rao. He was adored by everyone in the character of the fun loving and bindaas “Lucky”.
Then came the multi starrer “Dus”in July 2005, which also did quite well with its acting and the story. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, this story is an action packed thriller where Zayed has shown some really good acting skills with his character “Aditya”.
His other films include “Vaada”, “Shabd”, “Fight Club”, “Shaadi No. 1” and “Rocky”. None of the films have done magic to Indian cinema, though all have done about moderately.
On 20 November,2005, this 5’11” hunk married his long time girlfriend, Malaika Parekh. The same year he was nominated for the best supporting actor for “Main Hoon Na”. In 2004, he went on an international stage show tour “Rockstars” with John Abraham, Esha Deol, Mallika Sherawat, Shahid Kapoor, and Salman Khan.
Two of his forthcoming films are “Bisaat” with Esha again and “Idiot” opposite Celina Jaitley. Zayed sure looks like a promising actor of tomorrow.
Yana Gupta Biography
Yana started modeling at a young age of 16. She has worked in Milan, Paris and Vienna, even working on brands like Nivea and Shiseido before settling India, where her husband is based. She has modeled for international clients like Calvin Care, Victoria’s Secret etc. In 2001 Yana was named the new face for Lakme Cosmetics in India a crown which was previously held by Lisa Ray.
But what really made Yana famous in India is her sizzling dance numbers. Her first appearance in a cameo dance number was in the famous Babuji song from the movie Dum. The song made Yana a star overnight and she was popularly known as the ‘Bijli’ girl amongst her loved fans.
Yana formally separated with her former husband on 18th May 2005 and she is currently dating the Bollywood actor Aftab Shivdeshani. Both are quite fond of each other. It recently happened that Aftab was to do his very first kissing scene in his film Red opposite Celina Jaitley. He was so nervous that he stopped Yana from coming to the shooting sets that day.
Yana seems to have her own plans for the future and she is planning to launch her own music album, and she will write, compose and sing the songs all by herself! All the songs would be English and Yana would not be accepting any offers until this project is over.
Urmila Matondkar Biography
February 4rth 1974 was the day when Urmila Matondkar was born to a Marathi family in Mumbai. Her father was a lecturer with absolutely no connections with Bollywood. She was a brilliant student and has won many scholarships too.
From a very tender age Urmila got a break in Bollywood. Her 1st role as a child artist was in 1980 with “Kalyug”. But Urmila tasted success with her sparkling and immaculate performance as a 9 yr old in “Masoom”.
As an adult, her debut film was opposite Sunny Deol in “Narsimha”. Urmila then went on to do films like “Chamatkar”, “Shreeman Aashiq” and “Aa Gale Lag Jaa”. But her collaboration with film maker Ram Gopal Varma, saw a journey that permanently changed the face of Indian Cinema.
In 1995 came RGV’s “Rangeela”. This film was definitely ahead of its times with Urmila flaunting mini skirts and stunning looks. Even her performance was extraordinary, labeling her as a glamorous and sensual actress of tinselville.
But soon everyone realized that Matondkar was much more than just a glam doll. Her power packed performances in “Satya” (1998), “Kaun” (1999), “Pyar Tune Kya Kiya” (2000) and “Bhoot” got her a no. of awards including the Filmfare Best Actress Critics Award.
Urmila has worked hard in trying to portray something different in each of her flicks. From an obsessed lover in “Pya Tune Kya Kiya” to the nave unemployed singer Vidya in “Satya”, Urmila is surely the pride of Bollywood.
With her “mehbooba Mehbooba” dance number topping the charts, and with films like “Speed” and “London Dreams” almost ready for release, Urmi’s fans have all reasons to be delighted.
